The Friday Parade

There's this thing called The Friday Parade.

Everyone participates in The Friday Parade. It's the mental/physical song and dance that you do when the whistle blows and your weekend starts. Everybody has a Friday Parade. Mine was going pretty well today until people decided that they would rain on my Friday Parade.

That's right rain. And they did it and laughed!

A stack of paperwork thicker than a dictionary?

I think so!

I had the marching band ready, the streamers and confetti were about to be thrown! But, in came the evil rain clouds filled with paperwork.

Curses on you who choose to defile people's Friday Parades!

A few of my favorite things...

I love that song from The Sound of Music. How it became a Christmas song is beyond me, but anyway...

I've lately been thinking about a few of my favorite things. And I'm going to share them with you!
Here we go:

Pandora Radio
This was recommended by a friend (Hey Anna!!) and I love it. Especially at work. You can tailor tons of radio stations specifically to your tastes. So, my day will consist of Jars of Clay, Beethoven, and Marky Mark (yeah, that's right).

Panda Express
Panda Express = glorious fast food that may actually be good for you. Particulary the new Kobari Beef, currently my favorite thing on the menu.

Dollar Store Crafts
Ok, I just discovered this one today, but I can already tell it's going to be a favorite! Who doesn't want to make things out of stuff you have laying around the house? I'm not into this whole "green lifestyle", but I would have to say that's pretty much recycling in my mind!

Epbot
A blog about evrything geeky and girly. She is quite hilarious and inspiring!

BSF
I love diving deeper into the Bible and learning things I never knew and hearing God speak through our leaders. It's wonderful!

Brett Domino Trio
Thanks to my lovely friend Elizabeth, I am now a big fan of the Brett Domino Trio. I know there isn't the full trio in this video, but this is one of their best. You'll love it. Trust me.

The Catherine Tate Show
Thanks to Netflix for introducing this show. This is only one sketch from her entire show. It may not be the humor for everyone, but she makes me laugh!

And finally...
Doctor Who
Quite possibly my most favorite....favoritist? show ever! What's not to love? Aliens, time travel, Shakespeare, a blue police box, The Doctor!

Thanks again to Netflix, I have finished up to the fourth season and am patiently (not really) waiting for the fifth season to be released to DVD in November. Here is a synopsis of The Doctor.

These are just a few of things that I love, hope you can enjoy them too. :)

Narnia exists...

...if only in my mind.
Being entrenched in fantasy, fiction, and sci-fi at a young age tends to make me believe and accept the strange and other-worldy in movies, literature and even real life.

So when I walk down the hall at work and the gold plated griffin statue starts trembling like it is trying to escape from it's plaster prison, my mind immediately begins to plan his flight pattern.

This is the griffin:

His name is Thaddeus.

I will update you on his getaway progress. For now, he rests comfortably atop a filing cabinet.

Lessons in humility and dependence

There is no greater opportunity to experience humility than when you become dependent on someone else. Which is what I've had the unexpected pleasure of for over a week.
Our second car (read: my car) has been in "the shop" for over a week now. Some part is broken, possibly the entire engine and we've had the wonderful choice of deciding to repair the car or scrap it entirely and get a new one.
In the meantime, I still have to go to work everyday and Husband has school obligations. So it leaves me with the task of finding a ride home everyday. It also, unfortunately, leaves me stranded at home when I have the desire to go places.

On the flip side, it has given God the perfect opportunity to wake me up. :)
On whom am I dependent? Why isn't it God? It should be. With all the stresses that have been accumulating for us: house, car, school...it was easy to get bogged down in the details and lose sight of what God was telling us.
Two very well known verses have been stuck with me during the past few weeks.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."--Matthew 6:34
"I will never leave you, nor forsake you."--Joshua 1:5

He's got it. It's His. What am I doing still trying to figure it out, work it out, worry about it till the minutiae of it all seems too overwhelming that I have a meltdown? God will work out the details when I remember to give it to Him. He is the author and creator of life, why wouldn't he know how to make our lives run the way they're supposed to....He created us!
I need to remember the blessings that He has given me. He gave me life, my husband and a place to live. What have I got to complain about? So I don't have a car to go run my errands; I look at it this way, I'm saving money because now it makes me think twice about spending anything when I do get the car.
It's also given me time to get things done around the apartment. I've started a million and half art projects and I love it. Not sure Husband is too thrilled with half-finished tables, partially made journals, piles of paint, grout, bathroom tiles, paper, fabric and Pepsi bottles all over the place. But I'm reminded to look for the beauty in the small things that God has given us instead of searching for short-lived joy in other places.
I'm thankful for my family members and their gas tanks who have been gracious and understanding in picking me up from work everyday. It means a lot. :)
I'll post some of my finished craft projects in a few days....when they actually get finished.

It'll happen. Just like my crochet project that I've been working on for three years.
