Love is in the air :)

I spent most of my Saturday making this:

(night shots, but I think they look more dramatic that way!)

It was fun though! I watched two movies in the process (both starring Josh Hartnett--heartthrob of the 90s).

The inspiration came from here. Delia is a fun, brilliant lady and has awesome crafts.

And the instructions came from this blog.

Photo wreath...

...or how I spent my evening watching the Bachelor. (I seriously almost spelled it Batchelor).

I finished my photo wreath that I mentioned in my last post.
Here it is:

I love these colors together!

And I had to find a few quick pics to stick in, I might change them.

While the show of crazies was going on, I made these cute flowers for my hair and for bags.

I had to get Jaden to take a close up photo of the flower.

Because this is what it looked like when I tried to take it myself:

Smooth.

Going to make some more with Liz this week. Should be fun! :)

How to make a tea wreath

I made a tea wreath for my mom's birthday. I got the idea from blog-surfing and found an awesome tutorial.

Here is what it looks like:

And here is how I made it.
Supplies:
-pieces of cardboard, 12x12 or smaller. It all depends on the size you want to make. (I used two pieces from a box from work. Glued together for stability)
-hot glue and white glue
-clothespins (the dollar store-I used 14)
-scrapbook paper in coordinating patterns
-scissors
-a bowl or plate

Step 1:
-Measure the inner and outer circles onto your cardboard

When measuring wear to put the inner circle, place a clothes pin to determine how small the inner circle should be.

Step 2:
If you're using thin cardboard, glue together two pieces and then cut out the circles.
(I did it backwards and cut the two circles and then glued them together. It makes it a little more difficult making them the same. Just FYI.)

Step 3:
Trace your circle onto the backside of your paper and cut about a half inch to an inch excess outside this circle. (Again, I did it backwards and glued the paper to the cardboard and then cut it all out. It works, but makes it more difficult.)

Pretty paper I chose that matches my mom's kitchen. :)

Step 4:
Glue your circle onto your paper and make notches in the outside rim and the inside rim, so you can fold the pieces over and glue them onto the cardboard as you go. I didn't take pictures of this part because I got so wrapped up in the folding and.....I burned myself with the glue gun in the process.
BUT here is what it should look like on the under side.

Step 5:
Ice your hot glue burns

Step 6:
Cut coordinating paper into strips wide enough to cover the top of your clothes pins.

Step 7:
Glue on the strips with hot glue. Watch your fingers. Then arrange your clothes pins where you like and glue them down with the "mouth" of the clothes pin facing out. I didn't measure this, just glued and guessed. :) It works!

Step 8:
Glue a ribbon of your choice to the back and let it dry. I cut out a circle in a matching brown and glued it over the back just to give it a polished look.

Let it dry and then hang it in your kitchen or wherever you like.

My mom loved it and I'm almost finished making one for myself, but mine is going to be for pictures instead of tea. I don't drink it as much as she.

Here's the blog where I got the idea. Her instructions might be a little clearer than mine. Hope it inspires you to make one for yourself!

some interesting television

I'm thankful for Netflix. It brings in a wide variety of interesting and ridiculous, and therefore, entertaining television.

I was stuck at home sick yesterday and after I finished 3/4 of a season of How I Met Your Mother (that's right), I perused Netflix for other enjoyable fare.

I was hard-pressed to find some quality entertainment but decided on an 80s comedy with Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger. Blind Date was fairly entertaining for about 45 minutes but I couldn't handle how slow the movie ended up being so I abandoned it. Surprising. I rarely shut off a movie.
I then started shuffling through the other instant play movies and almost watched Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus. Yeah, I almost went there.
Who bank rolls these movies? Who puts that on their resume?

I finally decided upon The Kill Point. A made for tv mini-series about a bank robbery gone wrong. Seems like an interesting premise. I started watching it a few weeks back, but finally got around to watching the rest of it. It fits every single cliche in the crime story book. One cop who knows how to handle the situation in his own way, a stuck up chief who would rather do it his way because he has the title, a cocky sniper who thinks he's a philosopher, hard as nails female officer who has to be the voice of reason, FBI agent who thinks they can walk in at the last minute and solve it all, and a bank full of Stockholm syndrome victims. On the plus side, it's written like a bad B-movie and the only people who seem to know how to act are the lead cop and the lead bank robber.
Of course my only reason for watching it is Donnie Wahlberg. Yep. The NKOTB singer.

Tonight I think it'll be Hitchcock. :)

brand new year!!!

New Year's was odd. It didn't feel like anything was happening. Sounds weird, I know.
I felt the same for Christmas. I loved being with my family, but it still didn't feel quite like Christmas. My husband and I just weren't as into it this year as we have been in the past.

Oh well! Time to start anew. :)

I'm looking forward to this new year. We're going to buy a house! Yay for that headache and adventure. It's going to be fun. We're relying on God for everything and I know He's got great plans for us!!!!

I've also jumped headfirst into many craft projects and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's relaxing. Still haven't finished my crocheted blanket. Going on four years.
But you know what, I'm ok with it. My mom still hasn't finished stitching my birth announcement, so I figure I've got time.

Looking into Iron Craft and considering their year long challenge! One craft a week. Should be fun.......
